Join Us in Helping to
Protect Our Environment (back
to top)
Ambion is concerned about protecting our
environment and looks at the total operation of the company for
opportunities to recycle, decrease waste, and incorporate post
consumer materials.
Ambion Is a Green Energy Supporter
Ambion became a business partner of the
City of Austin's Green Energy Program, GreenChoice, in March of
2001. This program allows us to choose our electricity from renewable
sources developed here in Austin. These resources include wind
turbines and landfill methane gas projects located around the state.
As a partner of GreenChoice, Ambion is making a simple and inexpensive
ongoing contribution to preserve and enhance Austin's quality of
life while securing a hedge against fossil fuel costs.
Recently, the City of Austin featured Ambion in
one of their ads for GreenChoice in the "Austin Business Journal" and
the local daily newspaper, "The Austin American Statesman". Click here to

Recycling, Decreasing Waste, and Incorporating
Recycled Materials
In the laboratory we recycle pipette tip boxes,
the silver used in our developing processes, and the oil used in vacuum
pumps and centrifuges. Hazardous waste is reduced by sharing hazardous
materials and ordering only the amount of chemicals needed for immediate
use.
In the office we reuse the reverse sides of paper
for rough drafts, and routinely recycle toner cartridges, paper,
aluminum, glass, Styrofoam and plastic bags. We print our advertising
materials and catalogs on recycled paper, and incorporate recycled
paper in our office usage.
We continually improve our product packaging. Our
kit boxes are now all recycled cardboard. Recently we have started
eliminating the foam kit box liner and replacing it with a recycled
cardboard liner as well.
Our shipping department uses recycled packing boxes
whenever possible and packs in our own shredded paper and foam peanuts
received from incoming shipments. We have instituted a successful
recycling program for the outer Styrofoam shipping container. These
containers are returned to us and are reused as many as 3 to 4 times.
(Please excuse their appearance!) Our shipping manager says this
system is so self-sustaining that he rarely has to purchase shipping
materials.
Please let us know if you have any suggestions
or comments on our programs.
