FirstChoice RNA: Pure, Intact, and Stable
Ambion is pleased to offer FirstChoice RNA from regions
of the human brain. Total RNA is available from over 30 individual regions
from normal and diseased patients. As many researchers know, it can be difficult
to recover high quality RNA from brain and neural tissues. Not only is the
tissue difficult to obtain, but there are also many factors that can compromise
the integrity of RNA from these samples including the patient’s physical
state prior to death, the method of tissue collection/preservation, and the
procedures used for isolating the RNA. We have worked with our Tissue Procurement
Partners to ethically obtain tissues using procedures that greatly reduce the
chances of RNA degradation. We have also optimized the isolation protocols
for these lipid-rich tissues to maximize the yield of intact RNA. Each brain
region RNA preparation is subjected to the same stringent Quality Control assays
as all of our other FirstChoice RNAs to ensure that the RNA is intact, stable,
and free of contaminants including genomic DNA (<0.05%). This ensures that
each RNA is ideally suited for any downstream application including array analysis,
real time RT-PCR, and Northern analysis. The exceptional stability of FirstChoice
RNA is demonstrated in Figure 1.
FirstChoice Total RNA is provided in THE RNA Storage Solution at a convenient,
ready to use concentration of 1 mg/ml. RNA is available from clinically normal
patients, as well as from patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease,
Parkinson’s disease, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Figure 1. FirstChoice® Human
Brain Total RNA Stability
RNA was stored overnight at either
-20°C or 37°C. The RNA was then evaluated on an Agilent
2100 bioanalyzer. The approximate 2:1 ratio of the peaks representing
28S and 18S rRNA indicates that the RNA is intact and stable
even when stored overnight at 37°C. |
